The Meadows, Edinburgh, EH9 1JZ
Grace and I stopped at the Pavilion Cafe on a sunny Wednesday when we were out walking. Its a great wee spot to stop especially if the sun is shining as there is a great selection of tables and sofas scattered in front of the Pavilion to sit and enjoy the weather.
Inside theres not too much room for a pram, but enough to pop in and make your order before finding a table in the spacious outside seating area.
Its a very relaxed vegetarian cafe, alongside a few other community driven projects including food share scheme, tarot reading and a second hand clothing market.
Buggy Space: 5/5 (when the weather is good)
If you are looking for a nice place to grab a cuppa or bite to eat with plenty pram space when the sun shines then you can't get much better than this. So much outside space for all the tables. On days when the weather isn't quite as good there are a few seats inside but would recommend parking yur pram outside under the covered area and carrying your little one inside.
Children's amenities: 4/5
Although there are no childrens specific food options, and I didn't see any high chairs available, there are an array of different seats including small childrens sized seats, little sofas and soft seating (or even on the grass). Theres also unlimited space for children to run around outside in the meadows without disturbing anyone.
Changing Facilities: 2/5
There is no specific changing table available in the Pavilion toilets however whenI asked the staff said they do have a changing mat they can give you if you ask. Usually when I'm out in the park its just as easy to lie them out on the grass for a change than squeeze into toilets though so it would depend on your preference.
Location & Transport Connections: 3/5
If you are looking for a place to let toddlers run wild while you enjoy your coffee then this place is perfect. A close walk to the big playpark at the meadows and plenty space outside for them to play while you sit and relax. There's no parking on the meadows but you can get pay and display parking on marchmont road just across the crossing.
Its only served by the number 9 bus which runs along Melville Drive through the park, but the 24 running up Marchmont also stops close by. Any bus routes along Lauriston Place or Forrest Road are a nice wander down middle meadows walk and across the park too.
